Various sensors detect hazards and alert you early on so that you can respond immediately. In tricky situations the intelligently tuned suspension and the brakes come to your assistance.

And if a more serious situation does arise, you’ll appreciate the protection afforded by this high-security block on four wheels. In the event of a collision, a vast array of safety features provide optimum, comprehensive protection.

BRAKING SYSTEM.

Optimum braking behaviour in any situation is ensured by four disc brakes, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) as standard and Cornering Brake Control (CBC). Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) manages the balance of the braking force between front and rear axle. Brake Assist speeds up the process, enabling maximum braking pressure and thus minimising the braking distance.

DSC.

Standard-feature Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) prevents unstable driving situations by intervening in the engine management and, if necessary, by applying braking force to individual wheels at the front or rear. DSC also includes Hill Assist.

DTC.

Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) lets the driver actively make use of the self-steering properties of the MINI. Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC) recognises when the wheel slip is too high on the inside wheel during cornering and applies braking force for optimum handling on bends and different road surfaces.

Dynamic Brake Light.

During normal braking, the brake lights illuminate across their entire surface – during emergency braking, they start to flash. This allows vehicles behind to distinguish between gentle and full-on braking. The automatically activated hazard warning lights then help to defuse the critical situation.

ACTIVE REAR SPOILER.

The rear spoiler reduces lift on the rear axle, especially at higher speeds, and thus provides aerodynamic balance. This increases safety, particularly when you brake from high speeds to take corners.

STRONG TYRES.

A MINI never has that deflated feeling – thanks to Runflat Tyres with emergency running properties. The reinforced side walls allow you to drive up to 90 miles at maximum of 50 mp/h, even with complete tyre pressure loss.

FAST AIRBAGS.

The MINI has six airbags as standard: driver and passenger airbags protect the head and upper body during a head-on collision. Side and head airbags reduce the risk of injuries to the head, chest and pelvic regions during side-on impact.

RIGID CHASSIS BODY.

"Complete all-round protection" is the guiding principle for the MINI chassis construction. The rigid collapsible steering column acts as a protective shield, providing optimum protection in the case of impact from the front, rear and side or when the car rolls over.

AGILE CHASSIS.

Thanks to the multilink rear axle, each wheel can react independently, meaning that an uneven road surface doesn't affect the entire chassis and that your driving experience remains as relaxed as ever. Even more safety is provided by the single-link spring-strut front axle and symmetrical, equal-length drive shafts.
